Mrs Moseley tests the blog

After many months of inactivity on the blog Mrs Moseley is attempting to revive it. Mrs Stacey would like the children to be able to add posts of their activities as and when they happen. So watch this space. There will be more to come.

End of term!

Today is our last full day of school and we are basking in the sunshine.  The outside of our new building is still covered in scaffolding, and hasn’t changed much over the past few weeks, but there is a lot of progress inside the building.  Over the summer holidays, the old entrance and reception area will disappear – and there will be a smart new reception area for September.  So we expect the building to look completely different for our new school year.  We’re all looking forward to that.

We’ve now got more scaffolding around our reception area as the builders work on the wall here and the roof.  We can see the walls taking shape now.  And the sun is shining today – at least for the moment!

Sports Day!

The rain held off for one day at least and allowed us to hold our Sports Day on our playing field.  We all had a great day with lots of exciting new activities which you can read about on our website.  As you can see, while we were running around the field, the builders were busy working on the roof of the new building.

The hoarding by our reception has come down temporarily while the builders erect some scaffolding.  Here is a view of our new reception area and of the front of the school.  There’s obviously still a way to go before it is finished!

We were hoping to hold our Sports Day today, but unfortunately it is too wet.  We’re hoping for better weather for next week.  The rain hasn’t stopped the activity on our new building, however.  There is even more scaffolding around the new building, and there’s a lot of activity on the roof.  As far as I can see, the builders are installing the insulation for the roof and putting up the fascia around the edge of the building.  You might be wondering if I had the chance to go inside the new building.  I’m afraid not!  This picture was taken through the gate from the car park.

Adding the floor and the roof

Over half-term, the builders have removed asbestos from the old part of the building.  So everything in the office had to be packed up and moved into the hall before half-term, and then moved back afterwards!  Now the floor is going down in the new building, and the builders are also installing the insulation in the roof.

Don’t the panels painted by the year 3 children look fabulous!

Brightening up the hoarding

Our Year 3 children have had a great time designing and painting art work on the panels attached the hoarding outside their classroom.  It certainly brightens up the area outside our main entrance!

A view from inside!

We had a rare opportunity to see inside the building yesterday, which was really exciting.  As you can see, the walls are going up and we can begin to see our new rooms taking shape even if the area looks more like a warehouse than a school at the moment!  There’s obviously still a long way to go before we can move into our new classrooms.

SATs week

This is a busy week for our Year 6 children as they do their SATs tests.  To reduce the distractions for our children, the builders have been asked not to do any hammering or drilling during the mornings, so the building site is almost deserted at the moment.  We are expecting a lot of activity over the next few weeks, however, as we are supposed to occupy part of the new building before the end of this term.

Slow progress!

A few weeks ago the site was very busy while the main steel structure was put up.  Since then the building site has been quite quiet.  The roof structure appears to be complete now, although I suspect that the insulation still has to go in.  Today we can see some of the wall panels going in, but there is still a long way to go.  I assume that the work will speed up soon, otherwise it is hard to see the building being finished for the beginning of term in September!

April 26th

For a change, this week I thought it would be good to show a general view of the building site instead of glimpses of the work inside the hoarding.  You can probably see that there are only a few small gaps in the hoarding for the photographer!  The old part of the building is on the left of this picture.  Today the builders appear to be bolting together the last parts of the roof, but there are few people around.  However we should soon see the walls take shape as we are expecting to be using a few of the rooms in the new structure before the end of the summer term.  Watch this space!

April 19th

It isn’t easy to see what is going on with our building site at the moment.  As well as the hoarding all round the site, there is also scaffolding around the new building and screens of netting.  Your photographer has a challenge on her hands!  However, most of the roof is now installed and a few of the steel frames for the wall panels are in place.  I think you can just make that out in this photo taken through one of the two small windows in the hoarding.

Roof on!

Well, we’re all back at school after our Easter holidays.  However, the builders didn’t get two weeks holiday!  While we were away they started fitting the roof to the new building, although that is not so easy to see with all hoarding around the site, as well as scaffolding and netting.  I did manage to get a view of the inside of the building through one of the windows in the hoarding.  The builders are also getting ready to connect the new building to the old near the school office – the roof of the new corridor is supported by the red poles in the middle of the pathway.

Ready for Easter!

There are boards around all the site now, so it is very tricky to get photographs of the new building.  There are a couple of windows in the hoarding near the current school entrance, and a few gaps between the boards where I can put the camera – but it is a bit frustrating!  However, you can see that the stairs are completed.  The builders have also put up a lot of scaffolding and green netting across the top of the steel structure.  Perhaps the building will have a roof by the time we come back to school after the Easter holidays?

March 14th

Here is a view of the building work through the window at the end of our Year 6 corridor (one of the few places where you can get a good view of what is going on!).  Behind the wooden structure you can see in the picture, the builders are currently constructing one of the sets of stairs we will need to get to our new classrooms, since they will be on a higher level than the current building.  Now that most of the foundations are finished, the ground around parts of the building can be levelled out.  The builders still have to link the old and new parts of the building, but of course they can’t do that while the school is open.

March 11th

The builders have added more boards, so there are only a few places where we can peep into the building site and see what is happening (or get photos!).  However the builders are still making good progress, and here you can see them preparing to put in the stairs between the old and new sections of the building.

Beginning to take shape

Over the past week, some of the steel girders for our new building have been put in place so we can begin to see the shape of our new classrooms.  It’s amazing how quickly the new structure has gone up.  With all the hoarding around the site, we have to peep through the gaps in the fence to see what is going on!

Fenced in!

The builders have been busy while we were away for half term.  We came back to find that the building site is almost completed surrounded by blue fencing.  Fortunately for this blog, there are a couple of windows in the fencing and a few areas with Arris fencing where we still can see what is going on!  As you can see, it is a hive of activity today.  The flooring for the new building is now in place.  The next step is the erection of the steel framework for the new building, and we are looking forward to seeing the building take shape.

Bottom layer of flooring

The new walls are growing steadily, although it’s still hard to imagine how the finished building will look.  The builders have started to put down steel grids which will strengthen the bottom layer of the flooring for the new rooms.  You might be able to tell from the pictures that the floor level of the new rooms will be higher than the floor level in the current building, so we will have a short flight of stairs from the old to the new!

Mud, mud, mud!

January 2016 – the New Year has started with a lot of rain, but that doesn’t seem to have slowed down the building work at all.  Some of the walls are beginning to take shape.
